Happy 5th Anniversary, Center for Communicating Science!

The five graduate student winners from the Nutshell Games receiving their $500 awards

A huge congratulations and thank you to our dear friends and collaborators at Virginia Tech’s Center for Communicating Science as they celebrate their 5th anniversary! The Center has become a powerhouse in advancing more effective communications and engagement at the science-policy interface.

The Center’s anniversary was celebrated throughout their successful Communicating Science Week (March 16-23), which was a week’s worth of exhibitions, talks, workshops, and more. Highlights included:

  • A keynote address from scholar and author Dr. Elin Kelsey on Hope Matters: Why Overcoming Doom and Gloom Is Essential to Achieving Climate Justice
  • The Nutshell Games, with 30 graduate students providing educational and entertaining 90-second summaries of their research
  • A talk by interdisciplinary artist, and VT School of Visual Arts faculty member, Meredith Drum on her augmented reality app Oyster City
